Whether you are a fitness buff or just someone looking to lose weight, one of the best apps to download on your Smartphone is the MyFitnessPal.com app. This app is a miracle worker – it assists you in your weight loss goals by tracking your diet and your exercise, and hence is better (and obviously more reliable) than a fitness buddy!

So, forget about nagging your spouse or best friend to follow a diet program with you or accompany you for your morning jog. With the MyFitness Pal, the only “pal” you need is really your phone!

Here are 5 reasons why MyFitness App is an app that everyone should use.

1. Personalized Approach

The MyFitnessPal.com app lets you create a personal profile. Once you enter your current weight and your ideal weight, it tells you how many calories you need to burn every day to achieve the goal. The app will also suggest how many calories you should eat a day and tracks how many calories you burn through the day with exercise and daily physical activity. At the end of the day, the app will tell you whether you stayed on course with your diet and fitness routine or strayed from the path. It will also tell you that if you continue working towards your goals in this disciplined way, how long it would take for you to attain your goals.

2. The Perfect Tracker

The key to lose weight is to stick to your goals. And tracking your exercise and food intake can be a grueling task. However, with MyFitness app, this becomes much easier. It is an easy, portable and accurate way to track number of calories eaten, along with the breakdown of proteins, carbs and fats. This app takes guesswork out of the equation, and gives you hard numbers to work with. This is because the app has a bar code scanner that you can use to scan the barcode of any food or drink item and it will automatically tell you the nutritional data along with calories contained.

3. Extensive Database on Your Fingertips

The app has an exhaustive database on foods and drinks, both by brand name and the food item. Once you enter details of what you are considering to eat, the app will give you accurate information of the nutritional content as well as calories. It also makes the cumbersome task of entering details of what you have eaten through the day much easier.

4. Motivation to Exercise

MyFitness pal works with you towards your weight loss goals. It not only tracks your caloric intake, but it also tracks the number of calories burned through the day, showing you both figures for easy comparison. For those who need motivation to workout, just watching the figures of calories burned go up can be all the encouragement they need to run on the treadmill for a few extra minutes! It also has a database that has over 350 exercises, and gives you the “net” calories remaining from your daily recommended caloric intake post workout.

5. Create a Support Group

If you still want a support group where you and your friends could track your fitness progress and share with one another, MyFitness pal offers that feature. Together, you can achieve your fitness goals, and also offer each other some extra motivation.

One of my favorite trainers, Blair Baxter, of 3d Fitness in Ambler, PA gave me one of the best tips when using MyFitness Pal.  Log in your food … the day before your eat it.  That’s right, on Sunday, log in the food that you plan to eat on Monday. This way you are planning your meal is it lowers the chance that you will over eat when eating on a whim.

Happy Tracking!

UPDATE: On February 27, 2014, MyFitness App released the following message on Facebook:

For all our iOS members who updated to 5.0 and experienced an issue. First our sincerest apologies. We have just submitted one update, we hope will help with the majority of problems. This update should now be live in the App store and is version 5.0.1.

Please update the app to see if that helps. If updating does not help, you may then want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the app to see if that works, and verify the reinstall has put you on version 5.0.1. Also, please know we are still working on any lingering issues and hope to have another update out as soon as possible.

Please visithttp://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1461319-iphone-ipad-app-update-issues
for more information on these issues as well as how to uninstall and reinstall the app.

If you have also been experiencing an issue with Fitbit since the update, please know this was merely coincidence. Due to a delay we experienced, a back log of requests was created. The issue has been cleared, but unfortunately the back log is still needing to process. We are hoping this should be clear in the next day or so, and normal flow should return. Until then you may experience some syncs and others may not show.

Again, we are so sorry for any issues you have been experiencing. We sincerely thank you for all your patience and understanding as we continue to work on improving the program.
